Wait A Bit Longer
In 1631, a young Japanese man named Paulo Miki stood on a hill outside Nagasaki, tied to a wooden cross alongside twenty-five others. They had refused to deny their faith when Christianity was outlawed in Japan. Before he died, Paulo forgave his captors and said, “I am happy to die for God. I forgive you as I hope God will forgive me.” His calm patience, even in pain, showed the same trust and hope found in Revelation 6:10-11. Though his death seemed tragic, his courage inspired others. Today, Christianity still exists in Japan partly because believers like Paulo Miki waited faithfully, trusting that God’s justice would one day make all things right.
Scripture Overview
In Revelation 6:10-11, John sees in his vision the souls of believers who were killed for following Jesus. They cry out, “How long, Lord, until You bring justice?” God gives them white robes, symbols of honor and purity, and tells them to wait a bit longer, until the full number of His people who will suffer for His name is complete. This moment reminds us that God’s plans unfold in His perfect timing. Even when life feels unfair or when believers are mistreated, He sees and will one day set all things right. Waiting doesn’t mean God has forgotten, it means He’s still working His plan through every act of faith, big or small.
Things to Ponder
When have you had to wait for something you really wanted God to fix?
What helps you trust God when His justice seems delayed?
How could you show faithfulness in small ways, even when no one notices?
Have you ever seen someone suffer for doing the right thing? What did you learn from them?
How might waiting “a bit longer” change how you respond to challenges or frustration this week?
Application Challenge
Waiting can feel like doing nothing, but in God’s story, waiting is part of faith. Waiting doesn’t mean being passive, it means trusting that God is still good even when we don’t see the ending yet.
Maybe it’s waiting for a prayer to be answered, for someone to change, or for a situation to improve. Could God be using this waiting time to teach patience or to strengthen your trust in Him? E
Prayer Prompt
Dear God,
Help us remember that You see everything, and Your timing is always right. Give us courage to stay faithful, patience to wait with hope, and trust that You are working even when we can’t see it. Teach us to wait on you and trust you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
