Be Persistent
Imagine This
A woman’s home is damaged in a strong storm. Rain pushes through part of the roof and water stains spread across the ceiling. She files an insurance claim and is assigned to one adjuster who has the authority to approve the repair.
This adjuster has a reputation. He is difficult to reach, slow to respond, and does his best to stall progress so that claimants run out of steam and give up.
The woman begins calling his office. She leaves messages. She sends photos of the damage. Each time she speaks with him she says the same thing: “Please approve the repair so I can fix my home.”
For a while he ignores her. Weeks go by. But she keeps calling. She keeps emailing. She keeps asking for updates.
Finally he approves the repair. Not because he suddenly became compassionate, but because she would not stop asking.

Notice why Jesus says He told this parable.
Scripture Overview
Jesus begins the story with a clear purpose. He tells the parable to show His disciples that they should always pray and not give up.
In the story, a widow repeatedly asks a judge for justice. The judge does not fear God and does not care what people think. For a long time he refuses to help her.
But the widow keeps coming back. Eventually the judge gives her justice simply because her persistence becomes impossible to ignore.
Jesus then makes the comparison. If even an unjust judge will eventually respond, how much more will a righteous and loving God respond to His people who cry out to Him day and night?
The story is not meant to make us think God is reluctant. The point is that persistent faith keeps coming to Him.
Talk About It
Why do you think Jesus connects prayer with persistence?
What usually causes people to stop praying about something?
How does this story change the way we think about unanswered prayer?
What does it look like to keep coming to God with the same request?
Practice This Week
Think about one prayer you have quietly given up on. This week, bring that request to God again. Instead of assuming the answer is no, keep asking with faith and trust. Persistence in prayer is not stubbornness. It is confidence that God hears.
Prayer
God, thank You for inviting us to come to You again and again. Forgive us for the times we grow discouraged and stop praying. Help us trust Your goodness and keep bringing our needs before You. Strengthen our faith so we continue to seek You with patience and hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
